Samhain 2023

Our Samhain Gathering was completely beautiful.

We all had so much fun dressing up as kin. From ancestors, to animals, rainbows and sunrises/sunsets, grandmas and those of myth and legend.

Our wonderful host, Jennifer opened up her beautiful home to us all as a warm and welcoming space. Jennifer also joined Heidi and Tara to reunite our food team from our summer solstice retreat, providing gorgeous lasagnas and pies for us all that were added to by all the other delicious food contributions made by the rest of the community.

Channing helped everyone lean into their intuition as a part of the practice of divination, even giving everyone an opportunity to divine from special charms she placed in lovely cupcakes she made.

Bergen helped everyone to honor an ancestor they had chosen by to making a luminary for them and holding space for their stories.

Alisa guided everyone in carving turnips and rutabagas to make traditional lanterns to carry home our community fire in, while sharing bits and pieces of folklore and history.

After dinner we were able to spend the rest of the evening outside keeping warm together and having fun learning some Scottish ceilidh dancing under the full moon.

We had chilling and moving stories shared as we gathered around the fire: a tale from Norse myth called The Waking of Angantyr, beautifully told by Channing and a traditional English ballad, The Holland Handkerchief, sung by Alisa. We closed our night by weaving a communal story, full of passion and laughter.

It’s always a pleasure and honor to gather, and especially so for Samhain.
