  • We invite you, your friends, loved ones, and young ones to ‘welcome in the May’ by engaging in both traditions from Northwestern Europe and seasonally relevant activities based on our locality! Attendees will:

    • meet new friends of all ages in a local community united by shared values of reconnection, reciprocity, and respect

    • have the opportunity to dress up as pollinator kin: moth, butterfly, bee, wasp, beetles, ladybugs, and fairies welcome!

    • craft flower crowns and Morris bells to wear and take home

    • learn approachable and relevant folk songs for the season - one in English and one in Swedish!

    • participate in dancing the May Pole with the gathered group

    • discover the beauty of local pollinators and how to support their important work!

    • create a “pollinator bath” to take home and share with the winged ones in your space (materials provided)

    • listen to, or join in, an interactive seasonal storytelling experience

    • take part in games and activities geared toward honoring our pollinators through movement and play

    • elect a May Queen and entourage as part of the Welcoming of Spring Ceremony

  • We have simplified our registration communication and will be sending all information for the event immediately following registration. We will not be sending reminder emails! Please check your inbox and mark your calendars!

    At a Glance

    • Parking: Parking is free at Canyon Rim Park. The parking lot is located a short distance from our gathering location. Directions for parking will be sent immediately after registration.

    • Age Requirement: As our only family-friendly event this year, the Beltane Pollinator Picnic is open to all ages and genders. Ticket prices vary - please choose the best ticket option for your party.

    • Dietary Restrictions: We are not having a meal at this gathering. We encourage everyone to bring a picnic lunch for their party. Attendees are responsible for providing for their own dietary restrictions.

    • Accessibility: We are thrilled that Canyon Rim Park is fully wheelchair accessible!

    • Inside/Outside: We will be spending the entirety of the event outdoors. In case of rain, we will hold the majority of events under the large pavilion. Please keep an eye on the weather and dress in comfortable layers and footwear. We will not provide refunds for this event.

    All attendees should anticipate bringing their own:

    • costumes and wing wear

    • picnic for their party

    • water for their party

    • seasonally appropriate clothing and sun protection

    • greenery to donate to the flower crown station (optional, but encouraged!)

  • a small group of maypole dancers of all ages

    Learn Traditional songs and dances

    Gather around the maypole to participate in a simple Morris Dance, sing a traditional May Day song in English, and discover an enchanting song and dance about frogs from Sweden!

    celebrate our local pollinators

    These little creatures do so much for our ecosystem! Honor their efforts with games and interactive stories. Materials will be provided for all attendees to make a pollinator bath to take home and share with our winged friends!

    create a simple seasonal ensemble

    Flower crowns are a meaningful way for folks of all ages to play with the blooms and blossoms of spring! Morris bells (worn on the legs) ring in the season with joy and celebration. Materials will be provided for attendees to craft their own spring ensemble, and we encourage you to wear wings of all kinds if you have them!

    Meet local women and femmes, families, and friends who are interested in: connecting with their Northwestern European cultural heritage in respectful and dynamic ways; bridging the gap from a settler cultural inheritance to respectful and engaged community member; and participating in grassroots efforts to protect and preserve local land and communities.

  • No. This event is open to all ages!

    Guardians are responsible for the comfort and safety of their minors and must be present with them for the duration of the event. Minor-only activities and/or childcare services will not be provided, as all events are designed for all ages.

  • Yes! This is our only event open to folks of all genders, and we encourage men to attend with their loved ones.

  • Nourishing Kin serves the primary purpose of connecting women and femmes of the NW European diaspora to their ancestral heritage and facilitating skill-building for healthy, inclusive community participation. We emphatically invite Black and Brown women & femmes with NW European cultural heritage to participate in Nourishing Kin events. Guests without ancestral connection to NW Europe are welcome and encouraged to attend with the acknowledgement that these gatherings explicitly center the experience of the NW European diaspora unless the event description indicates otherwise.

  • Guests should be prepared to encounter the following topics as part of formal presentations at the Beltane Pollinator Picnic: animism, pagan practices, diaspora experience, and Indigenous history.

    Nourishing Kin is a queer-led and allied community. Families of all shapes, sizes, and definitions will be in attendance.

    Nourishing Kin serves the Northwestern European diaspora. This includes folks who are located along a spectrum of religious affiliation. We encourage the de-centering of religious affiliation at our events because we believe our worship communities are not the only way to find connection, friendship, and meaning!

  • Due to the nature of this event, we do not offer refunds. If you purchase a ticket and are unable to attend due to illness or conflict, you are entitled to receive a receipt of donation to Nourishing Kin Community. We are a federally recognized 501c(3) organization and your donation is tax deductible. Please send an email to nourishingkin@gmail.com to receive a donation receipt. Donation receipts will render your Pollinator Picnic ticket void.
