Beltane 2023
To celebrate the May, we gathered at a private home in Millcreek, Utah to welcome the sunrise and begin our celebration with homemade breakfast. Pastries, muffins, fruit, tea, and bannock filled our bellies as we prepared our space to honor the work we would do that day.
Leatha Udayabhanu, anti-racist educator and life coach, led a community discussion on the connection between whiteness and goodness. She illuminated the challenges both white and Black and Brown women face in the system of white supremacy, and the beginning steps to face and change those circumstances. Leatha’s presentation was followed by a short cleansing Beltane fire ritual.
The second half of our celebration took place at a nearby park and pavilion, where we gathered with our friends and families to create flower posies, sing traditional songs, and dance the maypole. This gathering truly felt like a Maying welcome to remember!
